Backing Up and Restoring a LoadLedger Database

LoadLedger includes Backup and Restore utilities you can use to transfer your data between computers. If you have any problems backing up and restoring data, refer to the Backup section of the Technical FAQ.

To backup the LoadLedger database:

If you are backing up to a jump or key drive, make sure the drive is recognized by your computer. (If you are backing up onto a CD, we recommend backing up to your hard drive, such as in your My Documents folder, and then writing the file to a CD.)

  1. In LoadLedger, select Backup Data in the Utilities menu.
  2. Click the button with the three dots [...]. The Select Backup File window appears.
  3. In the Save in drop-down box, select where you want to back up the file.
  4. In the File name box, type the name to give the file (such as load_123104) and then click OK. The Backup Data window reappears with the path to that location entered.
  5. Click OK. A message appears when the backup is complete confirming that it was successful.
  6. Click OK.

If you do not receive a message saying that the backup ws successful, repeat these steps. (Do not assume the backup was completed.)

To restore (or move) the LoadLedger database:

Note: Both computers must have the same version of LoadLedger installed.

(If you are restoring from a CD, you may want to copy the file to the hard drive before restoring.)

  1. In LoadLedger, select Restore Backup in the Utilities menu.
  2. Click the button with the three dots [...]. The Select Backup File window appears.
  3. In the Save in drop-down box, select where the backed up file is located.
  4. Click the backup file to select it and then click OK. The Restore Backup window reappears with the path to that location entered.
  5. Click OK. A message appears confirming that you want to delete the current database and restore the backup.
  6. Click OK if you want to delete the current database and restore the backup. A message appears when the database is successfully restored.
  7. Click OK.
